A few weeks ago, I visited New York for the first time, and one of my favourite places was the Highline. This elevated linear park, built on an abandoned freight rail line stretches 1.5 miles.

The Highline is a testament to the beauty of transforming urban areas into lush, green spaces. Here’s how you can draw inspiration from this iconic park for your own garden:

1. Pathways & Seating: Create meandering paths with seating areas, just like the Highline. This invites exploration and offers peaceful spots to relax and enjoy nature.

2. Seasonal Blooms: Take inspiration from a Piet Oudolf landscape. Plan your garden to have plants that bloom in different seasons, ensuring year-round beauty and interest, a key feature of the Highline.

3. Art Integration: Add sculptures or art pieces to give your garden a unique personality, much like the Highline’s blend of nature and art.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks at the Hawkhurst project! The plants are in and the lawn is laid.

It’s always a pleasure working with @charliesgranddaughter. A big thank you for helping me get the plants in the ground. I can’t wait to see this garden once the plants have had time to establish.

Now, for the final piece of the puzzle: a beautiful Cotswold buff aggregate for the pathways.

The Heathfield project has now been planted, minus a few climbers as the fence is to be painted.

Planting days are the sweet reward of months of planning and hardwork.

Looking forward to seeing the garden in a few months after the plants have established.
